Mr. Andrew Klare
US Humanities Teacher
- Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Classics, Hillsdale College
Mr. Klare grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where he attended St. Edward High School. Despite his upbringing in Northeast Ohio his family hails from Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky where he spent most of his holidays and summers. This background left him with the lifelong conviction that Ohio is in fact the greatest state in the Union. He attended Hillsdale College for his undergraduate study where he graduated Cum Laude majoring in History and minoring in Classics. At Hillsdale he engaged thoroughly with the Western Tradition, his attention focusing on antiquity through the middle ages. Mr. Klare is most passionate about arranging a meeting between his students and their ancestors through the study of primary source materials. Through this engagement with their Western Heritage, he hopes his students will walk away with an appreciation for the good of studying the humanities for its beauty as well as a better understanding of human nature and the world in which they live.
Favorite Classical Quote
“Time, which flies irresistibly and perpetually, sweeps up and carries away with it everything that has seen the light of day and plunges it into utter darkness, whether deeds of no significance or those that are mighty and worthy of commemoration; as the playwright says, it brings to light that which had been obscure and shrouds from us what had been visible. Nevertheless, the science of History is a great bulwark against this stream of Time; in a way it checks this irresistible flood, it holds in a tight grasp whatever it can seize floating on the surface and will not allow it to slip away into the depths of oblivion.”
