Enrollment FAQ’s

Prospective parents are invited to attend a Parent Info Session for an overview of our academic plan  and a detailed explanation of the enrollment process.

Who is eligible to attend Cincinnati Classical Academy?

Any Ohio resident entering grades K-6 in 2022-23 is eligible to apply to attend Cincinnati Classical Academy tuition-free. Out-of-state residents may apply, but Ohio applicants will have registration priority, and a tuition fee will apply for out-of-state students. (The State of Ohio provides funding for Ohio residents, but not for out-of-state residents. To keep the funding level constant regardless of residency, CLASSICAL needs to charge out-of-state students tuition at a level comparable to the state funding.)

Which grade levels are offered at Cincinnati Classical Academy?

CLASSICAL will begin by offering kindergarten through sixth grade for the 2022-23 academic year. We will be adding a grade each year until K-12 is served.

Is there an Information Session for parents to learn more about the school?

Yes. Prospective parents are invited to join CLASSICAL’s headmaster and board members for an overview of our academic philosophy, academic plan, school life, and planned sports/clubs, and a detailed explanation of the enrollment process. How old does my child need to be to apply for kindergarten?

Students must be five years old by September 30, 2022 in order to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year. However, for those students who turn five between October 1 and December 1, 2022, parents may opt to enroll them in kindergarten, but the child must pass a kindergarten readiness assessment (KRA) if a seat is offered. The KRA will be administered on an appointment basis, once the student is registered. 

Does Cincinnati Classical Academy admit students who are receiving special education services?

Yes. Our Student Services department will assist students with an IEP, English language learners, and those who are significantly behind grade level.

How do I enroll my student?

We encourage all parents to attend one of the Parent Info Nights offered before and during the enrollment period. If parents support our mission, philosophy, and practices, we invite them to take part in the enrollment process by completing one application per student applying. Please note that attending a Parent Info Night is not a requirement to enroll; it is just a recommendation. 

Is there an application or form to submit for enrollment?

Yes. Parents should submit one application per student during the enrollment period. Click onto the ENROLL button (after 5:00 PM on December 2) to access the enrollment application. By submitting an application, you are indicating that you would like a seat in a certain grade; however, your student is neither obligated to attend nor guaranteed enrollment if applications exceed capacity.

What happens if the number of applications exceeds capacity?

In the event that the number of applications exceeds capacity for a given grade, a lottery will be held to determine who is offered admittance and who will be placed on the waiting list. Please see our Enrollment Process page for specific lottery dates. 

Is anyone given preference in the enrollment process and lottery?

Yes. The following categories of students are given weighted preference during the lottery:

  • Students who have a parent who is a full-time employee of Cincinnati Classical Academy
  • Students who reside in the Reading Community City School District
  • For families applying for more than one child, once one child in the family is offered a seat in his or her grade, the other siblings will be offered seats in their grades.

If I am applying for full-time employment at Cincinnati Classical Academy, will my child be given preference in the lottery?

No. Children of prospective full-time employees will participate in the lottery without the employee priority. The full-time employment priority applies only to those who are already full-time employees of Cincinnati Classical Academy at the time of the Enrollment Application period.

How will I learn the results of the lottery and know if my student has been offered a seat?

Results of the lottery (including waiting lists by grade) will be available in each applicant’s online account immediately following the lottery event. Parents will also receive an email with this information. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that CLASSICAL has the most updated contact information (phone, mailing address and email address) in the SchoolMint platform for notification purposes. What happens once I am notified that my child has been offered an available seat?

Parents of all students who have been offered an available seat must complete and submit registration forms with valid supporting documents by the deadline communicated by the enrollment coordinator, or the student’s seat will be forfeited to a student on the waiting list.

Will my student have to participate in the lottery each year?

No. Once officially enrolled, all CLASSICAL students will remain enrolled for future years, subject to continued Ohio residency and other academic and disciplinary guidelines as stated in the Family Handbook. In the spring of each school year, parents of current students must inform the school if they plan to return for the following year.

Will the grade level waiting lists for the current school year carry over into the enrollment period for the following school year?

No. Waiting lists are terminated each academic year and do not carry over. The waiting list is terminated prior to the lottery event for the following school year.
