Miss Emily Scheie
US Humanities
- MA in Applied Linguistics | Dallas International University
- BA in English and Spanish | Asbury University
Miss Scheie grew up in Texas and Ohio and loves calling Cincinnati, where her family has lived for many years, her home. She herself experienced the gift of a classical education in middle and high school (Latin and logic were among her favorite subjects), and she has taught in classical schools and tutoring programs for over a decade. Her interest in how language works, from poetry to phonetics, spurred her graduate studies in linguistics, and she loves learning about languages and cultures from around the world. Outside of school she enjoys running (especially exploring cross country trails), reading (especially when gearing up for a good book club discussion), and most anything that delights in the good, the true, and the beautiful. She is excited to be part of the Cincinnati Classical community!
Favorite Classical Quote
“Poesy therefore is an art of imitation, for so Aristotle termeth it in the word mimesis—that is to say, a representing, counterfeiting, or figuring forth—to speak metaphorically, a speaking picture—with this end, to teach and delight.”
Sir Philip Sidney in “The Defence of Poesy”
