Student Services

Cincinnati Classical Academy is committed to serving all who wish to receive a classical education. We, therefore, will offer “accommodations” through our Student Services Dept. to any student who qualifies for an IEP or a 504 plan.

As a public community school, Cincinnati Classical Academy is committed to serving all who wish to receive a classical education. We, therefore, in accordance with both Ohio law and educational best practices, will offer “accommodations” through our Department of Special Education Services to any student who has a Special Education IEP or a 504 plan.

Accommodations allow a student who qualifies for Special Services to learn the same content and complete the same assignments as other students, but may alter the timing, setting, formatting, and presentation to some degree.  Accommodations do not lower the expectations for what a student learns.

Examples of Accommodations

The following accommodations may be used in IEP plans or 504 plans. These accommodations may be used in the student’s general classroom or in the Student Services room with an intervention specialist. This list is not meant to be exhaustive:

  • Preferential seating: Student is seated close to the teacher or in the front of the room.
  • Planner: Student uses a planner to keep a written log of assignments.
  • Written instructions: Teacher provides instructions verbally and in written form.
  • Review sheets for tests: Teacher provides review documents well in advance of tests.
  • Extra time as needed: Specific time adjustment will be specified, e.g. x1.5 or 2.
  • Note-taking assistance: Student receives a copy of the notes from class lectures to supplement his or her own notes.
  • Allow use of audio books: Student may choose to listen to the novel in audiobook format and read along at home.
